THE ULTIMATE LUXURY Safari Experienсe
The Ultimate Luxury Safari Experience
You wake naturally at dawn, feeling rested and at peace. In the distance, the first rays of light strike the eastern flank of Mount Kilimanjaro and the trees around you sing and squawk and chirp with life. A nearby hippo grunts his morning greeting. You wrap your hands around a cup of coffee, prepared just the way you like it. This is only day one and you already know you never want to leave.

Your experience in Our Tsavo
Finch Hattons offers an unrivaled luxury safari experience in the heart of Tsavo West National Park, Kenya’s largest national park and an area that boasts the greatest biodiversity in the world. Within this magnificent setting, we specialise in bringing the luxury African safari you’ve always dreamed of to life, and enhancing it through our years of experience and expertise, and our firm grounding in warm Kenyan hospitality. Rest assured that we’re experts at what we do.

Forget the rest of the world
Our camp is so isolated that you would be forgiven for forgetting that the rest of the world exists at all. In this place, it’s just you, the vast and varied terrain that stretches in every direction, and the many beasts and birds that call it home. We invite you to make our space your own, and to indulge in the world-class services and facilities that have given us international recognition as a luxury safari destination.

Our place is yours
Our relaxation spaces include an infinity pool and the Chyulu Spa, home to an elevated yoga deck, an infinity pool, two treatment areas, a hammam and a fitness centre. Beyond our camp, game drives, bush walks, ambitious hikes, and encounters with our local Maasai communities are available to you. Our space is yours to experience as you wish.

A FEW QUESTIONS
and answers
If you would like to find out more about Finch Hattons,
or have a query about how we can tailor make your dream Kenyan luxury safari, please send a query.
What sets Finch Hattons apart?
Finch Hattons is no ordinary safari experience. We are defined by our must-be-seen-to-be-believed natural beauty, our five-star luxury safari camp, our unwavering commitment to excellence and our warm, Kenyan hospitality. In some ways, what makes us unique is difficult to describe – it is something subtle and intangible, a particular kind of romance, a glimpse into a prehistoric past, and the chance to leave the world behind entirely.
What animals and birds will I likely see?
There are many animals that can be seen right from the comfort of your tent or the camp’s many viewing decks, including hippos, crocodiles, terrapins and baboons. Move a little beyond our camp and you’re likely to see Tsavo’s famous red elephants, as well as lions, leopards, buffalos, hartebeest, zebra, giraffe, oryx, bushbuck, waterbuck and lesser kudu (unique to Tsavo). Tsavo is also home to 500 different species of birds, 260 of which have been spotted in our camp.
What kind of weather can I expect?
With our equatorial climate, we are defined more by rainfall than temperature. Our short rains fall between October and December, and longer rains typically fall between March and May. While the rainy seasons offer the chance to see the world around us spring to life, the dryer intervening months make it easier to see our many resident animals. Both are beautiful to witness. Temperatures remain at a pleasant 27 to 31°C (81 to 88F) during the day and 22 to 24°C (72 to 75F) at night year round.
What activities are available?
There’s no shortage of activities to keep you entertained on your luxury safari at Finch Hattons. Day and night game drives, bush walks, full-day hikes and outings to the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, Mzima Springs, Chyulu Hills, Amboseli National Park and Lake Jipe are all on offer. A cultural visit to the Maasai town of Iltilal can also be arranged, where you can observe the traditions of the Maasai people first-hand. If you choose to stay in camp, you can relax on one of our many viewing decks, watch our resident hippos and crocodiles wallow in the nearby springs, or enjoy an indulgent massage at our spa.
How many nights should I stay?
This answer is simple: as many as you can. Ideally, we recommend that you stay with us for at least three nights. With so much to experience, anything less is simply not enough.
Are children welcome?
Yes, Finch Hattons welcomes children over the age of six, but not younger, unfortunately. Two children sharing with two adults in the family tent will be charged 50% per child of the adult rate per night. Children in their own room (which we recommend from age 10 and above) pay 75% of the adult rate.
Finch Hattons is equipped with all of the facilities you could ever need. In the camp alone, you are welcome to enjoy our exceptional cuisine in the dining pavilion, the star gazing terrace, and our bar and lounge. Should you wish to take your meals, high teas and sundowners in the bush, that can also be arranged. By night, we invite you to marvel at the stars and listen to traditional Maasai stories around our outdoor boma and fireplace.
Finch Hattons is run by a passionate and experienced Kenyan team, about 60% of whom have been with the camp for over 15 years and about 40% since the very beginning. The original group joined as construction workers in 1993 and were trained on site. Many of the others contributed to the camp’s massive renovation in 2013. In very symbolic ways, this camp is theirs – they helped to build it from the ground up.
Setting the standard in luxury camps, Finch Hattons hospitality has become synonymous with fine dining, exemplary service and outstanding safaris.
Our team is here to answer any of your questions about our remarkable corner of the world, and to make your time here exceptional in every way. Please don’t hesitate to speak to us if there’s anything you need.
Designed to be minimally intrusive, our camp’s 17 luxury suites offer sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, as well as total privacy for our guests. The tents’ open-plan design invites the cool breeze that drifts over the nearby natural springs, and brings the sounds and scents of the African bush directly to you. The result is a one-on-one experience with Africa; this is the bush in all of its immediate and unapologetic beauty.
The interior design of our tents is reminiscent of the golden days of African safaris. Our suites feature indoor and outdoor showers, copper bathtubs, creamy white linen, gentle lighting, beautiful hardwood writing tables, intricate chandeliers, ornately carved chests, vintage carpets, and all the conveniences you would expect of a first-class luxury safari offering.
