ADVENTURE & CULTURAL Safari Experience
Adventure and Cultural Safari Experience
For our most adventurous and culturally curious guests, Finch Hattons offers a range of excursions together with an unrivalled luxury safari experience in the heart of Tsavo West National Park, an area that boasts the greatest biodiversity in the world.

African adventure
Speak to our guides about visiting Mzima Springs, hiking through the Chyulu Hills rainforests, summiting a volcano, exploring the only, and youngest lava flow in Africa, or taking a trip to Amboseli National Park or Lake Jipe. With a picnic basket in hand, you’re ready for the day ahead.

Magical Maasai
Our cultural visits are available to give you some insight into the life of the Maasai people. The Maasai are an ethnic group that inhabit both Kenya and Tanzania and still live the largely pastoral life of their ancestors. We recommend a cultural visit to the nearby Lolarami Cultural Boma. The visit gives you a glimpse of the Maasai’s daily lifestyle from milking the cows to building Manyattas, their traditional homes

A FEW QUESTIONS
and answers
If you would like to find out more about Finch Hattons, or have a query about how we can tailor make your dream Kenyan luxury safari, please send a query.
What adventurous activities are available?
Day and night game drives, bush walks, crater climbs, full-day hikes and outings to the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, Mzima Springs, Chyulu Hills, Amboseli National Park and Lake Jipe are all on offer. You might also choose to climb to the top of Oldoinyo Ololarami hill, which offers stunning 360-degree views of Tsavo National Park.
What cultural activities are available?
Our cultural visits will give you an insight into the daily life of the Maasai in the nearby town of lltilal. The Maasai are a strong community that have retained their age-old traditions and cultures. A visit to lltilal will reveal some of these practices, including how the Maasai build their homes, which are known as manyattas. If you wish, our Maasai friends will also teach you some of their warrior and survivor skills, such as how to throw a spear and endure the African bush’s harshest conditions.
What animals and birds will I likely see?
There are many animals that can be seen right from the comfort of your tent or the camp’s many viewing decks, including hippos, crocodiles, terrapins and baboons. Move a little beyond our camp and you’re likely to see Tsavo’s famous red elephants, as well as lions, leopards, buffalos, hartebeest, zebra, giraffe, oryx, bushbuck, waterbuck and lesser kudu (unique to Tsavo). Tsavo is also home to 500 different species of birds, 260 of which have been spotted in our camp.
What kind of weather can I expect?
With our equatorial climate, we are defined more by rainfall than temperature. Our short rains fall between October and December, and longer rains typically fall between March and May. While the rainy seasons offer the chance to see the world around us spring to life, the dryer intervening months make it easier to see our many resident animals. Both are beautiful to witness. Temperatures remain at a pleasant 27 to 31°C (81 to 88F) during the day and 22 to 24°C (72 to 75F) at night year round.
Finch Hattons is equipped with all of the facilities you could ever need. In the camp alone, you are welcome to enjoy our exceptional cuisine in the dining pavilion, the star gazing terrace, and our bar and lounge. Should you wish to take your meals, high teas and sundowners in the bush, that can also be arranged. By night, we invite you to marvel at the stars and listen to traditional Maasai stories around our outdoor boma and fireplace.
Our relaxation spaces include an infinity pool and the Chyulu Spa, home to an elevated yoga deck, an infinity pool, two treatment areas, a hammam and a fitness centre. Beyond our camp, game drives, bush walks, ambitious hikes, and encounters with our local Maasai communities are available to you. Our space is yours to experience as you wish.
Finch Hattons is run by a passionate and experienced Kenyan team, about 60% of whom have been with the camp for over 15 years and about 40% since the very beginning. The original group joined as construction workers in 1993 and were trained on site. Many of the others contributed to the camp’s massive renovation in 2013. In very symbolic ways, this camp is theirs – they helped to build it from the ground up.
Setting the standard in luxury camps, Finch Hattons hospitality has become synonymous with fine dining, exemplary service and outstanding safaris.
Our team is here to answer any of your questions about our remarkable corner of the world, and to make your time here exceptional in every way. Please don’t hesitate to speak to us if there’s anything you need.
Designed to be minimally intrusive, our camp’s 17 luxury suites offer sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, as well as total privacy for our guests. The tents’ open-plan design invites the cool breeze that drifts over the nearby natural springs, and brings the sounds and scents of the African bush directly to you. The result is a one-on-one experience with Africa; this is the bush in all of its immediate and unapologetic beauty.
The interior design of our tents is reminiscent of the golden days of African safaris. Our suites feature indoor and outdo or showers, copper bathtubs, creamy white linen, gentle lighting, beautiful hardwood writing tables, intricate chandeliers, ornately carved chests, vintage carpets, and all the conveniences you would expect of a first-class offering.
